After Effects / Toon Boom Harmony
Description:
A mixed media piece for a Motion Design class that blends live action, collage, and frame-by-frame animation. It functions as a visual artist statement, capturing the rhythm, texture, and attitude I aim to bring into my work.
Process:
The piece started from a collage concept sketch, which I developed into storyboards and an animatic built around a fitting track.
I directed the live-action footage shot by Leion Van Osdol, capturing background clips and subject separately to allow for full control in After Effects. The subject was rotoscoped and reduced to 6 fps while the background remained smooth, creating the contrast in motion.
The comp was then moved into Toon Boom Harmony, where I added effects frame-by-frame. This hand-drawn element helped unify the piece visually and push the rough, textured quality that defines the overall look.
